ON THE BALL WORLD CUP EDITION QUICK DOCS

GAME PREPERATIONS

Before you start a new game you first have to make some preperations and
respond to a few basic questions.

1A: WHERE IS THE VENUE
A new menu appears in which you can select the host country. The points on
the map of the world show which countries can be considered. By clicking
Europe you can obtain a magnified view of this part of the map. If you press
the right hand mouse you will be returned to the main menu. If you move the
mouse curser to a mark,this point will be changed into the name of the
country. Click on the left mouse button to chose the required country.

1B: PLAYERS DETAILS
Up to 4 players can play 1 player per country. You will also be asked for
your name. Depending on how succesful you are the fans will chat your name
during the game.

QUALIFYING PHASE

The dates for the qualifying games are fixed in advance and cannot be
changed. Depending on the team and continent,the phase may involve up
to 18 games.

2A: THE OFFICE
At the beginning your office is the central point for all the main
decisions which you have to make in this phase of the game. Later in the
tormenent you will give the office up to a nice hotel room. If you move
the mouse around the room it will show you what each item is. On the wall
calendar you can read at any time how many months remain up to the start
of the world cup tormenent and whether you have to play a quilifying game
in the current month.

2B: OPTIONS
By clicking on the pinboard with left hand button of the mouse this will
call up the options menu. From this you can end save or load a game or
adjust various technical parameters.

2C: SAVE
This funtion will save the current score at the time of saving. Give game
any name for this purpose, follow corresponding on screen instructions.

2D: NEW GAME
The programme is restarted after it asks you whether you are sure. All
the existing data is deleted and can start a new game immediately or load
existing score.

2E: AUTO SAVE
This option set ON the current score is save at regular intervals

2F: ACTION SEQUENCE/TAKE PENALTIES YOURSELF
You can decide to take your penalties yourself or leave to the computer.
If preffered to trust in your own skill,the instutions will appear on the
screen as player as put the ball on spot. As coach you have the opportunity
of holding left hand button on the mouse to deside how hard the penalty
should be struck, to see settings you have made the strenght of shot is
shown in form of bar diagram on screen. When reaches desired strength
release button, the player takes the run up you then have a few seconds to
shoot at goal before the keeper saves it.

2G: QUICK FRIENDLY GAMES
If the option is set to ON then games will be shown only briefly with no
aminations or match reports as more than 1 player will take to long.
Also training is completed with out the reports.

2H:THE OPPOINTMENTS DIARY
This is the main tool of your office, by clicking on the monthly calender
the following options will be shown to you.

2I: ARRANGE A FRIENDLY
You can play as many as these as you like but be careful not to play to
many as your team will break down in the lack of time to rest for the real
games when they come. The earlier you chose to play a game then there will
be more teams to play against in the early stages of the game. To chose a
game click on the friendly box to chose the game you want to play

2J: WATCH GAMES
You can watch all the qualiflying games in America and Europe as well as
the knock out matches. It is best to watch your oppenents games to see how
how good the teams are

2K: PLAYERS POOL
The following symbles are for the following
G = Goalkeeper
D = Defender
S = Sweeper
DM = Defensive midfielder
LM = Left-hand side midfielder
RM = Right-hand side midfielder
AM = Attacking midfielder
A = Attacker

2L: INFO ON PLAYERS
A click with the right hand mouse on the name of a player will produce a
detailed information window for this player. You can see the relevent data
at a gance and then you can deside if you want this player. The following
are the characteristic of a footballer
1 = Self-confidence (from 0 = very sensitive to 5 = arragant)
2 = Composure (from 0 = ultra cool to 5 = hot header)
3 = Attitude (from 0 = very relaxed to 5 = winning is everything)

2M: CURRENT SELECTION
Depending on wether the player is playing in his proper position or not,
will be shown in various colours.
WHITE= The player is in his main position = 100% performance
BLUE = The player is in one of his auxiliary positions = 90% performance
RED = The player is in a position which is foreign to him = 50% performance
RED = Outfield player in goal or goalkeeper playing outside = 10% per

2N: SUBS
A maximum of 5 players can be subed in 1 game by clicking the right hand
mouse button you can obtain more detailed info on a player.

2O:STATS
The stats of the open files shows you list of top scorers, list of scorers,
stats on players and the fair play stats.

2P: THE MEDIA
Only one thing to say here watch out for them and what you say to them as
they are quick on the mark to pubblish what you say and even twist it

2Q: SUCCESS
In general the phase ends after 6 months before the world cup starts.
After playing all the matches a big party is held, asuming that you have
passed this stage if not the computer leave you to moarn for a new game

DIRECT PREPERATIONS

3A: SELECTING 22 PLAYERS
Now the fun starts. From all your players you now have to select a squad of
22 players, to do this click the players in the top selection of the sports
book. Once you have done this click ok to carry on.

3B: TRAINING
You can have up to a max of 3 training sessions per day. You will see a clip
board click on the players name and it now will become high lighted the
training sessions include as follows;
1 = Penalties
2 = Free kicks
3 = Solo runs
4 = Tackling
5 = Moves on the ball
6 = Offside trap
7 = Light fitness training
8 = Strenuous training not for the week
9 = Training as a punishment
10= Sprint and speed training
11= Heading training
12= Gymnastics
13= Ball training
14= Individual training

3C: TALK TO PLAYERS
This is one of the most important things of the game on how you tell you
team or your man on how he is doing and progressing. There are 8 different
ways of talking to a player, the last of which will probably be short but
loud
1 = Tell the player that he is one of your most important players in the team
2 = praise the player and tell him you are satified with him and build him
3 = tell the player he is playing the next match
4 = tell the player gently that he will not be in the starting line up
5 = build up the player and tell him that you will continue to rely on him
6 = criticise the player slightly and make suggestions for improvement
7 = tell the player shaply that you are not pleased with his perfomance
8 = send the player home

THE WORLD CUP TOURNAMENT

4A: THE DINING AND PRESS ROOM
Use as a dining room. A large room appears in which a cold buffet is set at
meal times. At other times this room is used as a press room. Times set for
food are as follows ensure you eat at these times to keep up your strength
7am - 9am breakfast
11am- 2pm lunch
5pm - 10pm dinner

4B: THE REST AREA
Make sure you go to your room and sleep at a reasonable hour or if you go
to you room late after a hard working day like i do typing this then then
you are likely to oversleep the next day or be over tired

4C: THE MEDICAL DEPARTMENT
Nice and simple this you can go to this room and speak to the player who is
not 100% and consult the team doctor. The meeting with the doc will take
about 15-30 mins depending on how many players you have in the sick bay.

4D: CLOSING CEREMONY AND END OF GAME
The game ends with the closing ceremony to the winners. Suprise yourself.
Finally you are given a glance at the high score table. If you have
achieved a good score you can enter it here.

DURING A MATCH

5A: GOALS AND CHANCES
Goals are what football is all about. In the world cup edition there are
various ways in which a goal can be scored. The goal chance must be created
in the following ways.

1. A goal from open play
2. A defensive error
3. A penalty
4. A direct free kick
5. An indirect free kick or corner
6. A back pass

5B:YELLOW AND RED CARDS
A player recieves a suspension for one match in the qualifying phase
and during the world cup tormenent after is second, third, fourth, ect
yellow card. After the qualfling phase this record iss reset to "0", in
ther words the player can recieve one more yellow card with out recieving
a suspension. If a player recieves a second " or third , ect" yellow card
in the last match, however, he will be suspended for the first match of the
tornament. This also accounts for the red cards.
