Playing Tips

1. The government charges a 33% tax on player transfers, and a 15% tax on any
gambling wins.
2. Do not sell too many shares.
3. In Europe away goals do not count.
4. When an injury occurs during a match, the sub is put on, and both teams
are re-assessed.
5. The league is calculated only on Saturdays.
6. After the auto save, the game crashes, at the end of every season. If you
want to carry on make sure you have a saved copy.
7. To print any page press P.

NOTES ON EMULATOR GAME SAVE/LOAD

It's a bit tricky to use the save/load feature in Football Director on an
emulator, and with some emulators it's impossible. The problem is that when it
comes to load the saved game, on a real Spectrum it's expected that you'd
switch tapes at that point, but the FD program doesn't pause at the end of the
main load but goes straight into the saved game load, which is OK on a real
Spectrum, as it would just sit there with the border flashing until you put in
the save tape and pressed Play, but with an emulator it won't normally do that;
as it's been told to read something it will read the next block in the TAP file,
(which will be the first one, as it will have wrapped round by then), which
isn't what the program expects, and it crashes.

To use the in-game save feature you'd need to take a copy of the original TAP
file and save your games on the end, then play the game from that. However,
you've got a problem as soon as you save more than one game, as the FD program
will always read the first one, once it's finished reading the main program
data, as it just carries on reading sequentially. To get around this you need
an emulator which has both: a) a TAP file browser; and b) a facility to step
through or pause the TAP file at any point. Thus you can pause the load when
it finishes with all the main files, reposition the TAP file at the saved game
you want to load, and then continue with loading the saved game. Alternatively,
you could edit the TAP file after each save and delete any old saved files so
that there was only ever one at the end, either with your emulator, if it has
that option, or with a program like TAPER, which you can download from WoS.

You'll have to read the docs with your emulator to find out which of the above
options it might have and how to access them.
