WHAT IS SAI?
Sai Karate is an ancient oriental martial art in which the Sai weapon is
used to deliver blows and block an opposing fighter's moves, as well as the
more familiar karate kicks and blows. It also exists as a form of Japanese
aerobics called Sai Kata, involving increasingly intricate moves with the
Sai and practised as a solo art. Sai Karate originated in Okinawa many
centuries ago, spreading gradually throughout the Japanese islands.

THE OBJECT OF THE GAME
Work your way up through eight levels from white belt to black belt, and
then through the eight Dan levels to become a Sai Master.

You score 100, 200 or 300 points for each successful blow landed on your
opponent, depending on the type of blow. A minimum of 600 points are required
for a knockdown fall. Your Chi (energy) levels are shown on the dragon's head
in the scoreboard.

In the one player option, three falls are required to move on to the next
level.

TO START THE GAME
During the demo, you can select one player mode by pressing 1 or two player
mode by pressing 2. In one player mode, you are the light-clad fighter.

Controls: Press K for keyboard
J to use Kempston joystick interface
S to use Sinclair Interface 2
C to use a cursor joystick interface (one player only)

A two player/two joystick game is available with the Sinclair Interface 2
option, otherwise player 2 should use the keyboard. The selected options are
shown in the scoreboard at the bottom of the screen.

START OPTIONS
Press ENTER to start a game at the while belt level with six tails available.
Pressing SPACE during the demo mode will return you to the level achieved in
the previous game, but you will only have three falls available.

In the two player option, play will start at the level selected at the Start
option.

To quit a game, press G and H together.

Note that the figures turn automatically when they pass one another. The
joystick or keypresses are then a mirror image of the given list of moves.

ADDITIONAL HAZARDS
When you reach black-belt level, watch out for the Ninja stars. The greater
your skill level, the more difficult it becomes to dodge the stars whilst
fending off your opponet. If a player is hit by a Ninja star, it will
reduce his Chi level but will not cause a knockdown fall.

In single-player mode in the Dan levels, the Skill level of your opponent is
the same as black-belt level, but he will be faster on his feet on the
higher Dans.
