BMX Simulator is an overhead racing game where the entire track fits in a single screen. The player must race against another player, or the computer, around a series of seven different bicycle motocross (BMX) tracks of increasing difficulty. These feature ramps and bumps which significantly affect the bike's handling. There is also a time limit to be beaten; you have to complete three laps before reaching it, or it's game over. The further inside the time limit you are, the more points you score. Beating your opponent does not affect your score.

A unique feature for its time is the action replay, which can be viewed in slow motion.
