The Class 111 Expansion Pack puts you in the cab of the Rolls Royce-engined Class 111 Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) built by Metro-Cammell between 1957 and 1960. This pack also includes the Class 02 shunter and 8F steam locomotive, plus a new RailWorks 2 freeware route called The Granfield Branch for you to run them on.

The Class 111 is a 2-car DMU with twin Rolls Royce engines and a 4-speed manual transmission, which is accurately modelled in this add-on to allow you to operate the gearbox yourself. With 23 sets being manufactured in total, the Class 111 is typical of the small DMUs which provided passenger services on rural lines like The Granfield Branch.

The Class 02 is a diesel shunting locomotive with a Rolls Royce engine providing the kind of tractive effort required to move heavy trains from a standstill. Built by the Yorkshire Engine Company for just two years from 1960, only a limited number were made, strictly for yard work, and many of these passed from British Rail into private industrial ownership.

The 8F is a heavy freight locomotive built from 1935 to 1946 to a William Stanier design for the London, Midland and Scottish (LMS) railway. More than 850 were made, with the last examples being withdrawn from service in the very last year of British main line steam in 1968.

The Granfield Branch is a fictional 7-mile RailWorks 2 freeware branchline based on the lines radiating from Banbury in Oxfordshire. Setterfield, the routes mainline station, is a recreation of the ex-Great Western Railway Banbury General station, and incorporates a 4-platform station, locomotive depot and sizeable marshalling yard. The line passes through several small hamlets before terminating at Granfield itself, which is modelled on the old LNWR terminus at Banbury Merton Street. The line also serves an ironstone quarry. A pleasant rural branchline with plenty of scope for train operations, The Granfield Branch is set towards the end of the steam era in Britain, just before the infamous Beeching Review resulted in a drastic reduction in small branchlines and the permanent closure of many lines like The Granfield Branch.
