Developed by Psygnosis.

When the Arcade machine was being written, the CEO of Data East apparently wouldn't start a meeting without challenging the person to a 2-player version of lemmings! This is also where the fast forward of Lemmings 2 came from, we saw it in the Arcade version, and borrowed it. Its now very hard to play the original Amiga one without the fast forward. The arcade version was joystick or trackball.

The US cocktail version is slightly different, it has the "Winners Don't Use Drugs" screen.

MAME Info:

0.58 [Bryan McPhail]

- On level 4 and some others, the draw order seems to be off on the exits. somehow the lemmings go in behind the exit rather than the front where you can see them. refraction (ID 01204)

- 0.144u7: David Haywood converted Lemmings to use the DECO sprite device.

- 0.135u3: Fabio Priuli added driver data struct and save states to Lemmings.

- 0.131u1: Angelo Salese merged memory maps in Lemmings.

- 0.58: Bryan McPhail added Lemmings (US Prototype) (Data East 1991).

- 5th February 2002: Bryan McPhail sent in a driver for the prototype arcade version of Lemmings, with thanks to Guru and Mike Dailly for supplying the ultra rare board.

- 25th December 2001: Guru - Here's a an ultra-rare prototype title from Data East called Lemmings, with emulation courtesy of Bryan McPhail. The board is wire-mod-city, and never made it to production. Brings back memories of the old Amiga. Thanks to Mike Dailly for making the board, info and ROMs available to me.
