Released in November 1988 by SunA. Licensed by Sharp Image.


This game is clearly a copy of "Rolling Thunder", the characters animations and the gameplay look VERY similar to Namco's game.


On later stages appears a 'gremlin' similar to the one used on some stages of Capcom's "Bionic Commando".


All of the music in this game is famous classical music, such as Ravel's 'Bolero' and Bach's 'Tocatta and Fugue in D-Minor'.

- 28th July 2009: Mr. Do - Kiltron got busy this summer and recently cranked out Rough Ranger artwork.

- 0.130u2: Mamesick added samples emulation to Rough Ranger (V2.0), write ports A & B of YM2203 are used. Added Samples sound.

- 0.88: Changed Z80 CPU1/2 clock speeds to 6MHz.

- 0.74u2: Added clones Super Ranger (v2.0) (SunA 1988), (WDK) and (bootleg).

- 0.60: Changed description to 'Rough Ranger (v2.0)'.

- 0.37b15: Added clone Super Ranger (WDK License) (Testdriver). Changed clock speed of the 2x YM2203 to 4MHz.

- 0.37b14: Luca Elia and Phil Stroffolino added Rough Ranger (v2.0, Sharp Image license) (SunA 1988) and (Testdrivers) clones Super Ranger and Super Ranger (bootleg).

- 15th March 2001: Phil Stroffolino sent in another update to the SunA 8-bit driver, adding some graphics emulation and fixing bugs.

- 14th March 2001: Luca Elia sent in his own driver for Hard Head and Rough Ranger, only some graphics are messed.

- 28th December 1998: Malcor dumped Super Ranger (bootleg).
