Eco-Phantoms PC Technical notes

General Information
===================
Turn on your PC in the usual way, inserting your MS-DOS or PC-DOS system disk
if required.
Place Disk 1 in drive A

Type INSTALL for full technical information on setting up Eco-Phantoms to
run on your PC. If you have more than 1 floppy disk drive or a Hard disk
then Eco-Phantoms can be installed to reduce or eliminate disk swaps. If
you only have one disk drive then you will have to swap disk from time to
time during the game (you will be asked to swap disk at these points).

To run from Floppy Disk
=======================
These instructions apply equally to 5.25" and 3.5" disks.

Place Disk 1 in Drive A
Type ECO for Eco-Phantoms or ECOS for Eco-Phantoms with Spanish Text.
Swap disk when requested.

To run from Hard Disk
=====================
First you will have to install the program to Hard disk.
Instructions for this are seen if you type INSTALL with disk 1 in drive A.
Once you have read the instructions you can install using a line such as

INSTALL A: C:

This will copy all the files from drive A to drive C. Install is quite happy
to install from any floppy drive to any hard drive. For example

INSTALL B: D: is equally valid.

Once you have installed Eco-Phantoms you can run it at any time by going to
its subdirectory (See Install for up to date details) and typing

ECO for normal Eco-Phantoms
ECOS for Spanish Eco-Phantoms

Using a Mouse with Eco-Phantoms
===============================
If you want to use a mouse with Eco-Phantoms you must install a Microsoft
Compatable Mouse Driver before you type ECO or ECOS. This is usually
found on your system disk or in your system directory and is usually
called MOUSE, XMOUSE, GMOUSE or something similar. Due to the wide variety
of hardware that can be configured to the PC it is not possible to be
explicit in this area.

Using Keys with Eco-Phantoms
============================
If you do have an active Mouse Driver when you enter Eco-Phantoms the game
will assume keyboard use. The keys are :-

The shifted arrow keys will emulate the mouse pointer but there will be
quick key press options available in most cases.

The mouse emulation is set up so that the mouse cursor will move when an
arrow key and either shift key are pressed. When the shift keys are
not pressed the keys 'z' and 'x' will act as left and right mouse buttons.

Most of the key option below are also available when a mouse is installed.

Additional Information

Some mouse drivers which support 3-button mice have been found to cause
problems after a while of playing the game. This is probably due to the
mouse driver software and so Eco-Phantoms will allow you to reset the mouse
by pressing the 'r' key. This will set the mouse pointer back at the
centre of the screen and you can carry on playing Eco-Phantoms. There is
no need to save the game.

Place a blank pre-formatted disk in your main floppy disk drive before saving.
Place the disk with a saved game on in the same drive before loading. If
Eco-Phantoms cannot find the file to load it will BEEP once and continue as if
you had not requested Load Game.
If you have a Hard disk then the game will be saved in your Eco-Phantoms
directory.

Adlib Music Support
If you have an Adlib Soundboard installed then you can hear the Eco-Phantoms
music by starting Eco-Phantoms using ECO S or ECOS S. Note: The save game file
from a game started with music active is not compatable with the game running
without music (and vice versa). The save game files have different names to
avoid accidental loading of the wrong type.

Hints for keyboard users
1. Scout ships may appear impossible at first but there is a trick to it,
don't give up too soon!
2. Most functions have a quick keyboard option to avoid using the keyboard in
mouse emulation mode.
3. To reach the door area of a building quickly or to get out of trouble
press the t (teleport) key.

Thankyou for buying Eco-Phantoms and please look out for Magic Garden also
from Electronic Zoo.
