Wings of Death is a vertically scrolling shooter set in a fantasy world. You begin as a small flying animal through a devastated castle populated by hostile creatures and traps.

The upgrade system is rich. Each weapon transforms you into a more powerful bat or a fearsome dragon. Shooting enemies reveals various upgrades and collecting several of the same type improves your current weapon. Enemies can also release anti-bonuses that will degrade your weapon or reduce your energy level.

After defeating the castle's final boss, you'll venture into the jungle, swamps and beyond.

Wings of Death features an unprecedented number of moving objects on screen for its time and platform with the maximum number estimated at 95. Developed by former demo programmers, the game also runs at 50 or 60 Hz while playing digitized music, even on an simple Atari STf, thanks to inventive hardware tricks. It also takes advantage of the Atari STe's additional color palettes and Blitter.
