Freedom Fighter was released by a division of Malibu Grand Prix named Millennium Game Products in 1987. It was Millennium Game Products' only game before the division shut down. Freedom Fighter used Japanese animation from the movies Galaxy Express 999 and Adieu, Galaxy Express.
In Freedom Fighter you are a renegade freedom fighter whose mission is to stow aboard Train 999 en route to the enemy's home base in space and destroy the evil Robot Guardian. While trying to get to the Train, you must fight a colorful variety of robots from soldiers and snipers to baseball players and hover-vehicles. If the player loses a life, the game resets to its previous decision point and offers the player the chance to choose a different one.
