**Pokémon Unova Red** is a ROM hack of the Generation 1 Pokémon games, replacing the original Pokémon roster with the 156 Pokémon from Generation 5. The storyline remains the same, but several gameplay mechanics have been updated:

- Dark and Steel types have been added, with an updated type matchup chart from Gen 5.
- Some Pokémon have lowered evolution levels to fit the shorter Kanto playthrough.

- TMs remain single-use but have been modified.

- Legendary Pokémon have been relocated, with areas like Cerulean Cave now accessible earlier.
