Cyrus IS Chess stands for "Cyrus Intelligent Software Chess", and not "Cyrus is Chess" as it is sometimes erroneously called. It was the second chess game on the Sinclair catalog, and was adapted from the winner of the 1981 European Micro Computer Chess Championship from Intelligent Software.
The ZX Spectrum 48K version of the game allows for altering the colors of pieces and the board, saving the game, board and moves printouts if the user had a printer, eight different skill levels to be played against, and three problem solving levels. The board can be turned around, and the player can take back moves or ask the computer to take back a move and choose a second-best one. It also allows Human vs Human games. It was the most complete chess game of its time for 48k computers. |
