Deadlock was an ambitious C64 project, envisioned as a mix between Impossible Mission, Trantor and Armalyte. It was meant to stand out with extremely detailed animations, realistic movements and impressive visuals, resembling an 8-bit version of Super Metroid. Planned features included precise weapon animations, atmospheric levels and fitting music. Despite the hype, the game collapsed under its own ambition: the spectacular graphics took precedence over playability, and the project was eventually abandoned. Years later, various preview versions and level editors resurfaced, offering a fascinating glimpse into what could have been one of the most impressive, yet ultimately unfinished, games on the C64.
