Deus Ex Machina is an unusual and experimental game by Mel Croucher. Until 1994, the computer controlled all defense and internal security. Tuesday evening the machine rebelled...

Players take control and follow the life of a “defect” in the form of a human body that has formed inside the machine.

The player has to guide the defect through the different stages of life and is constantly monitored by the defect police. The game cannot be lost, but depending on the number of actions the percentage shown varies. Deus Ex Machina is based on a series of vignettes with limited gameplay. On screens, the player moves a green dot between strands of DNA, fends off police examining the body, and jumps over words like "LIES" or "WAR" - with the relevance and atmosphere generally conveyed by the background soundtrack.
