Dino Wars is a strategic board game with some similarities to chess, where battles are decided through action scenes. If you've ever played Archon, you know the idea behind this game.

On a chess-like board (9x10 pieces in this game) you move different types of dinosaurs. If you hit a field that has an opposing dinosaur on it, the game switches to action mode. This is played as a beat-'em-up where you have to defeat the opposing dinosaur to win the field. Each dinosaur has its own strategies, movement restrictions and different combat abilities - which are roughly based on the historical characteristics of the real dinosaurs. Therefore, knowing which dinosaurs are likely to win the battle is crucial to strategy.

The action scenes can be played independently of the main strategic game.
