Duel (also known as Space Birds) is a game heavily inspired by Joust. You ride a strange, bird-like creature resembling an ostrich and float through space. Your goal is to collide with your opponents' birds, knocking them out of the sky with the point of your lance. Each successful maneuver increases your score, which is displayed at the bottom of the starting platform. The game takes place in an open arena surrounded by water—so you must avoid flying too low, or you'll fall into the water and be lost. Platforms provide safe landing spots where you can rest and reorient yourself. If you leave one side of the screen, you'll reappear on the opposite side, adding an extra layer of dynamism to the gameplay.
