Escape from Paradise is a platform game in which the screen scrolls as you move the hero Joe, who has decided to escape a huge maze by reaching the top. To help Joe, he must climb ropes, ladders and stairs and use elevators or springs while avoiding various creatures or obstacles. The creatures move through small sections of the maze and, when touched, consume its energy, which is indicated by a meter. Joe is also hindered by platforms that move left or right, up or down, with some disappearing, and by water, which also drains Joe's energy. Joe has a gun but no charge, so balls must be collected to charge it, and balls can be found as energy reserves. When the energy meter is empty, the game is over. However, if you have an energy ball, it will refill.
