The Great War 1914 is a turn-based strategy game set during the early months of World War I. The game spans the period from August to October (27 turns, each representing three days) and covers an area from Paris-Minsk to Antwerp-Vienna. Players take control of either the Western Allies (France, Britain, Belgium), the Central Powers (Germany, Bavaria, Austria-Hungary), or Russia. Each turn consists of three phases: strategic movement, tactical orders, and evaluation after all orders are given. Each unit has a zone of control that limits the enemy's movements. Key elements include special terrain fields that affect units, such as impassable rivers, as well as fortifications and railroads, which play a significant strategic role. The winner is determined by victory points awarded at 50 special fields, which are controlled by the faction that last moved a unit through these fields.
