Hearts is a simple card game where four players compete against each other. Each player is dealt 13 cards, and the cards are redistributed when all are used up. The first player lays down a card, and the subsequent players must play cards of the same suit. If a player cannot play a card of the same suit, they have "broken" the suit and may play any card. Once a suit has been broken in a trick, all subsequent players can also play any card. The player with the highest card in the trick wins it and leads the next round. The goal of the game is to avoid collecting hearts, as each heart card counts as one point. The Queen of Spades is worth 13 points.
