| The first sign of the unconventional nature of this text adventure is the terse description in the game manual. Unlike most games of its time, Lords of Karma doesn't prepare players with a written narrative with appealing illustrations. Even the plot of Lords of Karma is discovered in the game itself, as are the landscapes and scents of its magical world. There are treasures and deadly enemies, but what to do with the loot? All you know is that you collect "karma points" to get to heaven, and you start in the center of the mythical city of Golconda. Common shortcuts and two-word commands guide you through this text-based, turn-based adventure, but hesitation leads into the mouth of a hungry crocodile. Thankfully, death isn't final here - the karmic wheel keeps turning. You lose worldly goods and end up on a mountaintop, but the map stays the same and the karma points remain. |
