Nether was originally pitched as a Doom clone and gained attention in the Commodore community. However, the version released in Commodore Scene #31 turned out to be a basic exploration game with blocky graphics but an innovative lighting engine. Development continued, and by 2004 a new engine called Nether G-II emerged – smoother, but lacking sprites. After that, the project went silent until 2012, when it resurfaced as Aptitude, now a puzzle game seemingly inspired by Portal. A free three-level preview was released, but the full version never followed.
