| "The Examination" is a role-playing game in the style of the "Bard's Tale" series, but with a single character instead of a group. The player takes on the role of an apprentice wizard who must travel the world to pass his final exam, which is divided into five smaller challenges. There are many dungeons to explore and monsters to defeat. Combat is turn-based and rewards experience points, leading to a level-up and improvements in the character's stats (strength, mentality, constitution, and dexterity). As a wizard, the player can learn spells, which are divided into light, compass, healing, combat, and ranged spells. New spells are acquired after completing a sub-test. The user interface displays the current situation, character stats, commands, and important information such as enemy status, dialogues, and an automap. |
