L'Art de la Guerre (The Ancient Art of War) is a real-time strategy game developed by Microïds, set in ancient times before gunpowder. Players control three main unit types: fast, lightly-armored barbarians; slow, heavily-armored knights; and ranged archers. Spies are also available in certain scenarios. The game features two main areas: a tactical map for troop movement and strategy planning, and a combat screen where groups of up to 14 soldiers fight in real time based on player commands. Different opponents, including historical figures like Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Napoleon, each with unique combat styles, challenge players. An included editor lets players create custom campaigns, maps, and tweak troop formations.
