Donut Dilemma is a Coco 1/2/3 original arcade game done by Nick Marentes of Australia. Loosely based on the donut factory at which his father worked, Donut Dilemma if a fun, 10 level game where one has try to get to the roof of the donut manufacturing plant (after disabling the power to the plant on the 10th floor), starting on the first floor. You will face various obstacles, including bouncing donuts, moving platforms, falling sugar clumps, dissolving floors, and others. Nick originally did this game on the Model I/III, but greatly enhanced the graphics and sound for the Coco version. If the game is run on a Coco 3, it auto-detects it, and changes some of the palette settings (see the RGB screenshot of level 1 above) to make it easier on the eyes than the default 2nd color set for the 128x192x4 color mode the game uses.
The game used a rather odd key sequence to fire your dough (used to destroy donuts): the up and down arrows, as well as the left or right arrow, had to pressed at the same time. This does NOT seem to work properly on the current Mac version of MESS (B10). The game also features a practice mode, which does not count your high scores (it keeps track of the top 10 for your current session). |
